Be brilliant, play brilliant, and pickup craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps come about from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard amid a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French relocated south and located sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was acquired from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. Most think the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
